Spring Clean Your Beauty, Hair and Wellbeing Routine

Spring Clean Your Beauty, Hair and Wellbeing Routine

As you know, we believe that Spring is the season of fresh starts. The clocks have changed, the days grow longer and the light lasts longer, and many of us feel the urge to open the windows, clear out clutter, and reset our homes.

But while we’re busy spring cleaning our wardrobes and cupboards, it’s easy to forget that our beauty, hair and wellbeing regimes could benefit from a little refresh too.

Spring is the perfect moment to pause, reassess what we’re using, and make sure everything we keep truly serves us.

Here’s our version of a Spring Clean this season…

1 - Start with a Beauty Shelf Reset

Take everything out of your bathroom cabinet, makeup bag, and skincare shelves. Seeing your products all in one place can be surprisingly revealing, and a gentle reminder that less is more.

Have a look through, see what you actually use, does it suit your skin, hair, mood and lifestyle as we transition into a new season? And are the products still within it’s recommended use period and expiry dates?

At The Remedy, we believe in a minimal routine, which often works best for our planet, our skin, our finances, our mood and our time.

When we keep only the products we genuinely enjoy and use regularly, it becomes easier to create consistent self-care rituals rather than feeling overwhelmed by too many options. In many cases, less really is more.

2 - Check Expiry Dates and “Months After Opening”

Many of our treatment clients and product customers are not checking the labels, understandably so, as it’s not often talked about when it comes to marketing.

Checking how long products have been open is actually one of the most important parts of a beauty spring clean. Many skincare and beauty items include a small symbol of an open jar with a number such as 6M, 12M, or 24M, which indicates how many months the product is recommended to be used after opening.

We don’t stock brands that contain heavy preservatives or harsh chemicals, but many products out there do, and lots of skincare brands (including ones we stock) do contain active ingredients such as Vitamin C, exfoliating and hydrating acids, and natural formulations.

Don't forget to check your makeup too. Facial makeup such as powders, foundations and blushers, to mascaras, eyeliners and lip products can accumulate bacteria and mold over time. These you probably will want to prioritise in your beauty Spring Clean.

This is particularly important, because over time, these ingredients can lose effectiveness, and in some cases products can begin to degrade. If something smells unusual, changes colour, separates, or irritates the skin, it’s usually a sign it’s time to let it go.

And remember, if you're using your products regularly, and finishing them within the recommended time frame, then that could be a good indicator that you have a good balance of what works for you and your lifestyle. If you have a number of products out of date, and hardly used, it's considered to be a sign that you could benefit from a less is more approach going forward...

3 - Adjust Your Routine

Spring also brings changes in temperature, humidity, and sunlight, which can affect how our skin and hair react, and how it needs maintaining.

During winter we often reach for richer creams and heavier oils to combat cold, dry conditions. As the weather warms, many people find their skin benefits from lighter textures such as lightweight serums and moisturisers, cooling facial mists and SPF.

Haircare can shift too. After months of indoor heating and cold winds, spring is a good time to introduce nourishing treatments, scalp care, or gentle clarifying products to refresh the hair and scalp. Hair masks become more popular too, with sun, sea and swimming causing seasonal hair damage.

4 - Remember Your SPF

We’ve mentioned SPF already, but with brighter days and more time outdoors, sun protection becomes even more important. While SPF is something dermatologists recommend using all year round, spring is often the time people remember to reintroduce it into their daily routine.

Consistent sun protection helps protect skin from premature ageing and sun damage.

A useful tip is to keep SPF somewhere visible, i.e. next to your toothbrush or morning skincare products, so that it becomes part of your everyday habit.

5 - Make Space for What Supports Your Wellbeing

Spring cleaning isn’t just about disposing and recycling. It’s also about creating space for products that genuinely support your wellbeing.

This might be a calming scented candle to enjoy after a busy day. A new nourishing body scrub and cream to keep your skin soft during the summer months. Perhaps a soothing bath product for a much needed moment of rest, and a facial mist for a refreshing skin boost throughout the day.

The Remedy ‘way’ is choosing products with more mindful intent. They come from small rituals and habits we're aligned with, and will have more meaning and purpose than just another product on the shelf.

We also want to encourage less waste. So, if you’re using a product you love, use it until it’s finished, and don’t just bin it because it’s a new season. Your beauty and wellbeing routine should feel supportive, not overwhelming.

A seasonal reset helps ensure everything you use is fresh, effective, and aligned with what your skin and body need right now. Our friendly team at The Remedy (Elm Road) and The Remedy Room (Leigh Marina) are on hand to help you simplify, refresh and reconnect with the products and regimes that make you feel good for another year around the sun.
