There is something quietly special about women choosing to support other women. A daily, intentional decision, often subtle, in how we spend, how we collaborate, how we speak about ourselves, and how we show up for one another.
Here at The Remedy, our planet-friendly ethos, slow rituals of care, all while being a female-founded small business, we see firsthand just how powerful it can be to support women in our community, in our business and in our treatment rooms…
Why Community Matters
To us, community is nourishment. As a small business rooted in sustainability, eco-conscious living and mindful practices, we believe and see that growth doesn’t come from chasing more, it comes from being sustainable with our choices and consistent with our values and offering. We pride ourselves on getting to know our customers, knowing the people who walk through our doors. We love to recommend other businesses, especially the local ones and celebrate their launches and successes.
Like many other women in business, many of us are balancing a life of running our businesses, motherhood, ambition, caregiving, collaborations and more. This means our community becomes the anchor in our lives, from the people who support us, see us, hear us, and share values with us, and visa versa. We love our small community here in Leigh-on-Sea, because the collection of independent businesses, within a family-focused town, means the support feels greater and our voices and brands can travel further…
The Remedy Team
The business model and concept behind The Remedy allows us to build a team aligned with our ethos, passion and values. Often, that means working with local women who love what they do.
Our team is talented, knowledgeable and deeply committed to delivering exceptional care to our clients. We feel incredibly fortunate to have them representing The Remedy, whether in the treatment room or working remotely behind the scenes.
We believe strong team morale grows from happiness at work, flexibility, and genuine support for one another’s dreams and responsibilities. As business owners with families ourselves, we understand how important it is to be visible and present in our own small orbits.
For us, building a growing small business is about so much more than selling products or treatments. It’s about supporting dreams. It’s about strengthening the communities on our doorstep. It’s about championing small-batch brands and contributing to local economies in a way that feels intentional and sustainable.
Community and Collaboration
Sharing knowledge, cross-referring clients, hosting joint events, celebrating each other’s successes is how sustainable ecosystems are built in business.
There’s space for everyone, because growth is not a limited resource. When one woman thrives, she is also creating space for other women to feel inspired to do the same…
We have the opportunity to lift each other up, so why wouldn’t we?!
Remember, the perspective, reputation, admiration and legacy stays. Children see their mothers run a business with integrity. A female client might feel secure in her skincare regime for the first time ever. Empowering community and collaboration, creates the ripple effect that extends far beyond a product sale…
Everyone Has A Different Story
For the women we see in our treatment rooms… we see them relax, exhale, breathe out as they reconnect, soften, and enjoy a dose of self care. We create a space for them to enhance their wellbeing, and to feel good in their own skin.
Every woman that walks into our treatment rooms and our shop is living their own story. We see them, and we pride ourselves on showing up for their time, values and care.
Moving Away from “Perfect Culture”
For a long time, the beauty industry long profited from ‘perfection’. From decades of airbrushed skin, filtered face and anti-ageing ‘quick fixes’. Skin positivity is different now (thank goodness), and we hope it’s firmly here to stay.
With a great deal of propaganda surrounding us on a daily basis, we’re pleased to see more women representing the perfect reality. Skin texture is normal, lines tell a story, and our skin changes with life, stress, hormones and the seasons. It’s not about fixing, it’s about supporting, it’s about care, not correction.
And respecting our skin, adopting a less-is-more approach and owning our rituals contributes to an alignment between slow beauty and slow living. At The Remedy we feel that sustainability and green beauty is about choosing long-term skin health over quick fixes (from small-batch planet-friendly brands of course).
We’re not alone
In conversations we have every day with our customers and communities, we know that supporting women creates a powerful act, and we hope this article has shown how “women supporting women” goes beyond a tagline, a small business sales message, or a hashtag. However we uplift each other in our businesses, and in our daily lives, not only builds resilience, but it can reduce isolation, while enhancing purpose and joy.
You’ve heard of phrases such as “it takes a village” and “feel seen and heard”, and that’s because supporting each other is not only needed, but powerful too.
