At The Remedy, self care is one of the words we hear (and say) often. But it’s also one of the most misunderstood.
The truth? Self care doesn’t always mean a face mask and a bubble bath (though we’re always here for those too). It’s deeply personal, often simple, and always essential.
Why It Matters
We live in a world that rewards busy-ness. Being “on” all the time is often worn like a badge of honour. But our minds and bodies need pause. We believe that self care is about intentionally creating that pause. It’s about giving ourselves the time and space to process, recharge, and be present. At its heart, self care isn’t self-indulgent. It’s survival. It’s showing up for yourself in the small daily rituals that keep you well, grounded, and connected.
Self Care Looks Different for Everyone
One of the most powerful things about self care is that it doesn’t have to look the same for everyone. For some, it’s heading out for a run. For others, it’s painting, journaling, cooking, meditating, or just being still with a coffee. For some, it’s skincare: a moment of calm in your morning or evening routine that’s just for you. There’s no wrong way to care for yourself, only what feels right for you in that moment.
Our Version of Self Care
At The Remedy, self care is a chance to come back to yourself. To switch off from screens, let go of the day’s noise, and just be. Whether it’s applying a nourishing oil, lighting a candle, or standing still with your favourite playlist, these are micro-moments but can have powerful and positive effects. They don’t have to be grand or time consuming. A few quiet minutes with a beautiful scent. A stretch. A walk. A single conscious breath. These tiny rituals add up.
Make It Yours
Your version of self care is valid, whatever that looks like. Don’t compare it to what you see on social media. The goal isn’t perfection, because we all know that doesn't exist. It’s presence. Here are a few of our favourite ways to slow down:
- Run a warm bath with Palm of Feronia Bath Salts
- Light a calming candle from Self Care Co.
- Sip something grounding like Ancient + Brave Cacao + Collagen
- Gently massage in a few drops of facial oil from NINI Organics
- Diffuse essential oils while journaling or stretching
However it looks for you, honour that time. Make space for it.
You Deserve That Moment
So here’s your permission slip: whatever you're holding, wherever you're at, please take this as a reminder to pause. Even if just for a few minutes. Self care isn’t a luxury. It’s your right, and your necessity.
And we’re here to support you every step (and still moment) of the way. What's your version of self care? We love to hear and to be inspired too.
Your Invitation To An Evening Of Our Version Of Self Care
Here in Leigh-on-Sea, the famous Leigh Art Trail starts on Saturday 5th July. To kick start this annual event, on Friday 4th July, we are hosting an evening, where you can enjoy our version of self care - art, food and a pamper!
We are excited to welcome Michelle and Ali (who run the Secret Art and Supper Club) to The Remedy on Friday 4th July.
Their ethos is incredibly mindful - from sourcing ingredients, prepared with intent, and their offering is fully vegan too. With delicious canapés on offer, before enjoying an art session with a difference. We are inviting you to create an art installation here at The Remedy, whereby you will contribute to our window display in celebration of the Leigh Art Trail by drawing your very own self portrait on our window.
As an extra treat, we will be offering fizz, makeovers, skin care consultations, mini facials, creating an overall pampering evening of self care. As an artist, Michelle will also be displaying her talents in our shop, giving you a chance to view her art and have the opportunity to buy her prints too.
Plus, for any purchases over £50, we will be gifting you a FREE Olixa Mushroom facial mist. This is a great antioxidant mist which boosts the efficacy of SPF, and is really hydrating and refreshing (especially when kept in the fridge).
There is no cost, simply coming along between 7pm-9:30pm to help us kick start the art trail. We can't wait to see you then!
